Combine 1 tbsp lemon juice, ¼ C to 1 C sugar (depending on the sweetness of the apples), and ¼ C water or fruit juice.
Add syrup to 6 C sliced apples and mix well. Place mixture in 9x9 inch baking dish.
For the topping:
Combine ½ C flour, ½ C brown sugar, 2/3 C rolled oats and 1/3 C melted butter or margarine. Mix until crumbly and sprinkle over fruit mixture. Bake in a 350 degree F oven until fruit is tender (about one hour).
